Penn State Athletes Cited Following Brawl Caught On Camera - WJAC Johnstown

Posted: 5:44 pm EDT March 30, 2011Updated: 7:11 pm EDT March 30, 2011Investigators with the State College Police Department told WJAC-TV on Wednesday afternoon that seven people were charged in connection to a fight caught on camera in February. According to Lt. Keith Robb, the scuffle was caught by two surveillance cameras, inside a fourth-floor hallway of the Cedarbrook Apartment building on Feb. 28. Authorities say there were at least 10 fights reported during State Patty?s Day, a controversial, alcohol-fueled student-created holiday in Happy Valley. Summary disorderly conduct citations were filed against Penn State football players Curtis Drake, 20, and Derrick Thomas, 20, as well as Nittany Lion basketball players Tre Bowman, 19, and Taran Buie, 19. Buie was placed on indefinite suspension from the basketball team in December following an unrelated incident. State College police also filed citations against Penn State student Christopher Felter, 21, and nonstudents Bryan Price, 23, and Craig Price, 21, who were visiting from Susquehanna County. Robb told WJAC-TV that alcohol was involved in the incident and that the citations were filed after phone and email tips started pouring in when images from the surveillance video were released to the public. "The cameras are invaluable. If it wasn't for the cameras, we wouldn't have been able to do anything with this,? said Robb. ?It brought us to the scene as it happened. And that's going to be our evidence in court. We will bring the video to court and show the judge and let him make the decision whether or not this is a disorderly conduct." All four of the cited athletes are underage, but officers said additional charges aren?t expected. An official with Penn State?s athletics office told WJAC-TV on Wednesday afternoon that he was unaware of ?any change in the team status of the four student-athletes.? Copyright 2011 by WJACTV.com.
