Heard about Facebook’s suicide prevention alert app?

The latest in tech talk is Facebook’s introduction of a new feature intended to will help prevent suicides. According to published reports, a button unveiled this week will let users report “suicidal content” in a status update to Facebook.

Facebook will then e-mail the person who posted the status update and encourage them to call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline or begin a confidential chat session with a crisis worker at Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Naturally this leads to speculation about other useful buttons FB has in development.

I’m waiting for the accompanying apps: the adultery alert button, the faux pas alert button, fraud and bribery alert buttons. And of course, the inevitable distinctive ringtones for forthcoming mortal/venal sin alert widgets: Maybe a riff on the Broadway classic “I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say No”?

Next, how about a FB button that warns of over-sharing on FB?
